Amplify human ability.

At Ekso, our aim is to amplify human ability. From protecting workers and boosting productivity, to treating patients and rehabilitating mobility deficits, we are pioneering how people live, work, and recover with bionic technology. Our goals are similar to those of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization. With constant development and innovation, we are finding new ways of applying our expertise every day for the benefit of humanity.

REHABILITATION

Helping your patients regain full function.

EksoNR, our lower-body clinical bionic rehabilitation device, was the first exoskeleton cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for both stroke and spinal cord injury (SCI), as well as the only exoskeleton FDA-cleared for acquired brain injury.

The EksoNR neurorehabilitation suit is primarily designed to help patients with a neurological diagnosis regain the natural movement of their legs after suffering lower limb disabilities. Wearers of this popular robotic exoskeleton have access to best in class technology for gait training and neurorecovery during their medical rehabilitation. The device also prioritizes comfort with customizable fittings to the waist, thighs, and lower legs.

With the assistance of a physical therapist, patients with disabilities can begin getting out of their wheelchairs, standing, and even walking without assistance. The EksoNR device is powered by hydraulics and has a built in computer system that uses a combination of force and motion sensors to help build strength. Released last year, the EksoNR model is based on the EksoGT bionic device, but the newer model supports an even more natural gait pattern, so a poor gait pattern doesn’t get reinforced. It also comes with a touch screen for clinical use and boasts new technology for performance analytics and real-time adjustments during therapy. While some exoskeletons provide the full force needed to walk, for patients with complete paraplegia for example, the EksoNR model focuses on active participation from patients, which drives brain plasticity.

Building upon our clinical expertise, we have expanded into upper-body rehabilitation with the new EksoUE. This exoskeleton assists patients with rebuilding their upper extremity strength and maintaining upright posture while providing upper extremity support. This model enables 180 degrees of motion at the shoulder, is mobile so the patient can use it sitting, standing, and walking, allows for higher therapy dosage without using a battery, and can be easily reconfigured to support each individual patient.

In addition to patients with a stroke or brain injury, our robot suits can also help patients with paralysis. Injury to the spinal cord is a common cause of paralysis of lower limbs. People with paralysis are often told that they’ll never walk again, but with wearable robots with sensors that detect weight shifting, patients can be walking again with a greater degree of freedom. Ultimately, patients with SCI, strokes, brain injuries, and neurological disorders can benefit greatly from assistive technology in a rehabilitation setting. These devices are not meant for a home setting, nor are they replacements for implants or prosthetics like bionic arms, bionic hands, or other prosthetic limbs.

These devices can be even more effective when combined with an FES belt that uses electrical signals to provide tactile feedback for balance retraining. Inclusion of FES must be part of an IRB in the United States.

MANUFACTURING

Boosting manufacturing workers’ endurance and safety.

With major manufacturers like Ford and Boeing leading the pack by adopting EksoVest, we are now introducing the next step in human-centric manufacturing: EVO. EVO blends the efficiency and accuracy of robotics with the strategy and decisiveness of humans.

Shoulder injuries from performing overhead tasks, repetitive strain injuries, and overexertion are common causes of workplace injuries that lead to lost days and worse. Our EksoVest exoskeleton technology has been used in workplaces since 2016, and it’s one of the best examples of our industrial applications. With no electronics or cybernetics involved, our original vest used a series of springs to provide assistance to meet high energy demand and improve work capacity. The EVO combines human strength and biological systems with lightweight enhancements creating a hybrid system that supports work and comfort.

CONSTRUCTION

Dramatically reducing workplace construction injuries.

With use by industry-leading construction companies around the world, EksoZeroG and EVO support workers, allowing them to be more safe, accurate, and efficient. Saving business hours and cash burn, EksoZeroG and EVO are lifting the construction industry to the next level.

EVO is the next evolution of exoskeletons. It was built using feedback from customers and industry partners to address obstacles faced by industrial and logistics workers. We’ve altered the way manufacturers think about safety in the U.S. and across the world, and we believe every workplace injury is preventable.

EVO is now available at lower costs to encourage widespread use. The new vest is lighter and has custom fits for the shoulder, elbow, and waist to ease discomfort during lengthy donning. EVO allows for full ambulation, so it only enhances human capabilities while boosting performance and morale.

OTHER APPLICATIONS

Endless applications, endless opportunities.

Ekso has developed products for countless applications. From ABI patients standing up and walking, to technology developed exclusively for the U.S. military, we create exoskeletons that help amplify human ability. Both the U.S. Navy and DARPA have used our technology, and our first bionic robotics product, the HULC, was meant to help soldiers carry heavier loads across longer distances.

Our mission is to engineer new ways to innovate how people live. Our technologists are constantly working on new optimization methods to overcome uncertainties and achieve actual results.

Other Applications

Ekso has so many applications.

From boom mic operators, to hairdressers, to orthopaedic surgery patients, to industrial launderers—Ekso has a solution for everyone. With leading companies in industries like solar, food processing, utilities, and more, we have a solution for you. Can’t find a solution for your application? Send us your ideas!
